Revolut gambling block: how to turn it on or off
The Revolut gambling block is a free self-control setting that makes Revolut decline any card transaction coded as gambling — turning it on is instant, turning it off is deliberately delayed by a cooling-off period. This page covers both directions: enabling it as a responsible-gambling tool first, then disabling it, the reported waiting time, and why a casino deposit can still fail after you switch it off.
What the block does
When enabled, the block sits at the card level and declines merchant transactions carrying a gambling merchant-category code (MCC) — the same mechanism a bank uses. It stops outgoing gambling payments; incoming funds, including casino withdrawals, still arrive normally .
How to turn the gambling block ON (the RG-positive step)
If you want a hard barrier between yourself and casino deposits, this is one of the fastest to set up:
- Open the Revolut app → Profile.
- Go to Security & privacy (or Account settings) → find the gambling / merchant-category controls .
- Toggle the gambling block ON. It takes effect immediately.
Treat it as one layer, not the whole answer — pair it with operator-level self-exclusion and the resources on our responsible gambling page (cross-silo — RG duty of care, logged exception).
How to turn the gambling block OFF
- Open the Revolut app → Profile → the same security/merchant-controls screen.
- Toggle the gambling block OFF.
- Confirm — and then wait: the change is not immediate (see below).
The waiting period before it lifts
Users report a cooling-off delay — commonly cited as around 48 hours — between switching the block off and gambling payments working again . This is by design: an instant-off toggle would defeat the point of a self-control tool. If your deposit is being declined and you recently turned the block off, the cooldown is the most likely cause.
Why casino payments still fail after disabling it
Turning the block off does not guarantee a successful deposit. Other causes overlap:
- You are still inside the cooldown window above.
- The card is a disposable virtual card — use the physical or a persistent virtual card.
- The operator’s cashier rejects the card BIN — the fixes on the BOV declined-card page apply to Revolut declines too.
For how Revolut behaves as a deposit and withdrawal rail more broadly — acceptance, fees, withdrawals back to the card — see using Revolut at Malta casinos.
Responsible-gambling note
If you are using the block to control your play, keep it on. Removing a self-control tool to keep gambling is exactly the moment to reach out: free, confidential support is at rgf.org.mt and Supportline 1777.
